Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is now the +175 Heisman Trophy betting favorite at FanDuel, as he tries to achieve a feat that has not been seen in over 50 years.

Navy Halfback Joe Bellino in 1960 is the last time a non-quarterback from a small conference won the prestigious award.

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel is the second favorite with +320 odds, after entering the weekend with +1500 odds. The Ducks won a top-five matchup over Ohio State in dramatic fashion, outlasting the Buckeyes 32-31. Gabriel accounted for three touchdowns and finished with 341 passing yards.

Miami QB Cam Ward is next with +700 odds, followed by Alabama’s Jalen Milroe with +1000 odds.

Through six games, Jeanty is on pace to break Barry Sanders’ single-season record of rushing yards and touchdowns. Sanders set those marks when he won the Heisman in 1988 with Oklahoma State.

Against the Broncos’ five FBS opponents, Jeanty has rushed for at least 185 yards. Plus, against second-ranked Oregon on the road, he scored three touchdowns while averaging 7.7 yards per rush.

A quarterback has won the award 12 of the last 14 years. Additionally, BYU quarterback Ty Detmer in 1990 was the last time a small conference player won the award.
