Before Philadelphia 76ers first-round pick Jared McCain went down with a lateral meniscus tear, he was an odds-on favorite to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.
While McCain doesn’t have a timeline in place for his recovery yet, other rookies have catapulted ahead on the betting board. In fact, FanDuel is no longer offering odds on him.
San Antonio Spurs’ fourth overall pick Stephon Castle is now the favorite with +150 odds. The UConn product is averaging 11.7 points and 3.9 assists off the bench.
The next two players with the shortest odds are New Orleans Pelicans’ Yves Missi (+250) and Los Angeles Lakers’ Dalton Knecht (+500). The first overall pick in last year’s draft, Zaccharie Risacher, comes in fifth with +1400odds.
This season, McCain appeared in 23 games while logging 25 minutes per game. McCain has averaged 15 points on 46% shooting.
Weeks before his injury, McCain shared that winning the Rookie of the Year nod was a highlighted goal. On Tuesday, McCain underwent surgery with no timetable set for his return.
