Duke standout freshman Cooper Flagg remains the Wooden Award betting favorite but his odds shifted from -525 to -260 over the final weekend of the regular season.
Auburn’s Johni Broome’s shifted from +350 to +195, following 34 points on 15-28 shooting against #7 Alabama. However, the top-ranked Tigers suffered their second consecutive loss.
This betting market has been a virtual roller-coaster with massive swings.
Within the past month, Broome was a -250 favorite. However, the senior then registered single-digit points and rebounds in consecutive games. Auburn lost at #22 Texas A&M, relegating Broome to the second favorite with +350 odds.
Broome was the favorite in mid-January until he sprained his ankle. He then dropped to a +550 longshot but he ended up only missing a few games.
On the same day Broome injured his foot, Flagg delivered a signature performance with an ACC freshman-record 42 points in the Blue Devils’ win over Notre Dame. That sequence of events pushed his Wooden Award odds to -600.
The 6’9″ freshman is currently averaging 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists, leading the team in all three categories, as well as steals and blocks.
Voters may submit their ballots any time between March 18 and March 25. That overlaps with the NCAA Tournament’s first weekend, which ends on March 23. Thus, a significant upset could sway the results, given both Auburn and Duke are currently projected as #1 seeds.
