The Big Ten made NCAA Tournament history with a perfect 8-0 start in the opening round. Additionally, the conference covered the point spread in all eight games.

All eight schools were favored and most covered with ease. Michigan was the lone exception with a 68-65 win over UC San Diego, covering the 2.5 points.

The eight wins is the most ever by a conference without a loss. In this tourney, the SEC also won eight games in the first round but also had six losses among its record 14 schools to make the big dance.

The Big Ten is riding a 25-year championship drought, pursuing its first national title since Mateen Cleaves and Michigan State cut down the nets in 2000.
