Sports betting is complicated and it can be intimidating as a new bettor. We’re here to help.
A moneyline bet is a wager on who will win, plain and simple. But of course, no matchup is exactly 50/50, so the moneyline represents the odds for each participant. To help simplify things, the moneyline is posted in relation to $100 wagered. For example, if the favorite is -200, then they are a 1-to-2 favorite. Again, all in relation to $100. So -200 means you have to risk 200 to win 100. The underdog would be +180, so a little less than 2-to-1 odds. If you risk $100 at +180, then you win 180. Since the point spread is the great equalizer, bettors often prefer wagering on a Moneyline favorite, particularly in parlays.
I remember my first bet, too. Now, it’s time to play.
