Sports betting is complicated and it can be intimidating as a new bettor. We’re here to help.
A futures bet is a wager on an outcome down the road. That can be the eventual champion, maybe the MVP, or who will lead the league in passing yards. Odds are posted for each outcome. For example, let’s say Team A is favored to win the championship before the season because they are generally considered the best team. They might have six to one odds which means you win $600 on a $100 bet on team A. You can also make a futures bet on a longshot, a team not considered to be one of the best, to win the championship and watch them eagerly all season in hopes that they overachieve. They will give you way greater odds but almost never win it all. Bettors can also wager on whether a team will win a division, reach the postseason, and even their total number of regular season wins.
I remember my first bet, too. Now, it’s time to play.
