Quarterbacks who once transferred between the Pac-12 and SEC now sit atop the Heisman Trophy betting boards with two weekends left before voting closes.
LSU’s Jayden Daniels accounted for eight total touchdowns and passed for over 500 yards against Georgia State to become the +110 betting favorite at DraftKings. Oregon’s Bo Nix threw for six touchdowns and 406 yards and now sits at +120. However, other sportsbooks have Nix slightly favored over Daniels.
LSU currently has three losses and plays its final regular season game next Saturday, hosting Texas A&M. Although Daniels will not play the following weekend for a conference title, there is recent precedent. Louisville’s Lamar Jackson in 2016, A&M’s Johnny Manziel in 2012 and Baylor’s Robert Griffin III in 2011 all won the prestigious award in similar circumstances.
Oregon is on pace to face Washington in the Pac-12 championship game on Friday, Dec. 1. If the Ducks defeat Oregon State this coming Friday (currently 14-point favorites), they will face undefeated Washington in the conference title game and can avenge their lone regular season loss.
Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr. is currently the third-favorite at +550. His odds are notably higher because the Huskies are projected as roughly six-point underdogs to Oregon, according to Only Players Betting Analyst Doug Kezirian.
The irony is that Nix began his career in the SEC at Auburn before transferring out west in 2022. Arizona State had Heisman hopes when they handed Daniels the reins as a true freshman but he transferred from the Pac-12 to the SEC in 2022.
