And just like that, the Yankees have momentum. Down to the last out Saturday night. They tie the game, then win in extras at Fenway, smoke the Red Sox on Sunday night baseball, and all of a sudden they take the series over the weekend. Now head to Philly for a big series. Really tough test.
Should be interesting, at least Monday’s game in terms of this pitching matchup. What we think it is. Phillies -155 at home with Zach Wheeler on the bump. Now we think the scheduled pitcher for the Yanks is Luis Gil’s. Now Wheeler is in the Cy Young conversation for the National League. Second favorite behind Chris Sale. He’s been absolutely lights out. I count five really strong starts since giving up eight earned at Baltimore, but he’s bounced.
He was seven shutout innings in his last game at Minnesota. So against a solid twins lineup, Wheeler’s as good as they come right now in baseball. Now, Luis Gil’s been interesting. He was lights out to start the season, had a 2 .03 ERA June 14th, three starts later, 3.41. That’s because he gave up 16 earned over those three starts, but he has since bounced back three straight starts allowing one earned or less.
Was Gil’s mechanics off? We don’t really know, but I feel comfortable in Gil moving forward. Now I think the Phillies get the win because I believe in Wheeler, but I’m looking at unders, team total under for the Yanks, even though the lineup has woken up and they added Chisholm. I think Wheeler’s that special, all things considered and a little bit of a flat spot off the big win Sunday night at Fenway and then travel to Philly. Not a long trip, but still Sunday night baseball. Typically the road team has sort of had some bugaboos on the following Monday if they’re on the, if they have to relocate.
Whether it’s a home, you know, moving rather than just being at home, it’s the road team Sunday night that travels to the next game. That’s the key. So I will fade the Yankees along those lines with team totals and things like that once the market gets situated. But because their game went late Sunday, some sportsbooks haven’t even bothered posting lines.
