The more things change, the more they stay the same. As the Big 12 welcomes four new schools to the conference, all roads still run through Phog Allen Fieldhouse and the Kansas Jayhawks.
Kansas is a +185 favorite to capture the regular-season conference title, which is something they have done at least a share of in 17 of Bill Self’s 20 years in Lawrence. But K.U. has been challenged over the past two decades, and this season is no exception.
While Oklahoma and Texas begin their final season before joining the SEC, the conference welcomes BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. The Cougars are the second-favorite at +400.
The Big 12 has experienced incredible success over the past decade:
- For eight of the last 10 years, the Big 12 has ranked as college basketball’s best conference, according to statistics website, KenPom.
- The Big 12 has captured two of the last three NCAA titles (Baylow in 2021 and Kansas in 2022).
- Sixty percent of Big 12 institutions have advanced to the Final Four since 2002, which is the highest percentage among conferences.
