The Baku City Circuit is one of the most unique tracks in the F1 calendar. The 6.003-kilometer track is located in the heart of Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. The circuit comprises of narrow streets that wind through the city’s medieval Old Town, as well as a long straight that runs parallel to the Caspian Sea. The track is known for its challenging layout, which includes tight corners, long straights, and high-speed chicanes, making it a true test for the drivers.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has only been part of the F1 calendar since 2017, but it has already established itself as one of the most exciting races of the season. The previous winner of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was Max Verstappen, who dominated the race from start to finish. Sergio Perez and George Russell came in second and third place, respectively. All eyes will be on Verstappen this year as he aims to defend his title and continue his impressive start to the season.
The previous race this season in Australia saw Verstappen once again on top of the podium, with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso coming in second and third place, respectively. Verstappen’s win in Australia puts him in the lead for the F1 Driver points standings with 69 points, followed closely by Sergio Perez with 54 points and Alonso with 45 points.
In the F1 Team points standings, Red Bull currently leads the pack with 123 points. Aston Martin is in second place with 65 points, followed by Mercedes with 56 points. Red Bull’s dominance in the team standings is largely due to the impressive performances of Verstappen and Perez, who have both consistently finished on the podium this season.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is expected to be another closely contested race, with the likes of Verstappen, Hamilton, Perez, and Alonso all vying for the top spot. However, the Baku City Circuit is known for throwing up surprises, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see some unexpected results.
