I first became a Green Bay Packers fan in college and I have proudly called myself a cheesehead ever since. Am I from Wisconsin? Nope — born and raised in Southern California. I am a fan for one simple reason: Aaron Rodgers.
As one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time (I said what I said; don’t @ me), Rodgers’ entire professional football career has been with the Packers. His Super Bowl win was with the Packers. I mean, the man lives 10 minutes from Lambeau Field. Rodgers has given so much to the franchise he’s carried on his back his whole career…literally.
So, the idea of Rodgers wearing colors other than green and yellow never seemed like a possibility. Honestly, the idea never even crossed my mind. But today, along with my fellow cheesers, I have to face the reality that our beloved Rogers could be moving on from the Packers. But, I get it and I support it.
Think about it — Rodgers has been with the Packers SINCE THE BEGINNING of his career. When he entered the NFL Draft in 2005, Rodgers was confident he’d be picked up by the San Francisco 49ers (big bust on their part). When the Niners swooped in on Alex Smith, the Packers came in and saved the day by drafting Rodgers, who went on to win his first (and yes, I know, only) super bowl five years later.
For 18 years, Rodgers has shown his skills on the field. Skills not many other quarterbacks possess. Skills even Tom Brady doesn’t have. I’m talking about Hail Marys. I’ll let this clip do the talking.
And just because I don’t like him and I feel like further proving how overrated Brady is:
So after yet another disappointing season, Rodgers is finally looking to take his talents elsewhere. And y’all mocked him for his process. SMH
Rodgers is tired, people. This man has carried his team, and pretty far I might add, year after year, season after season, and he isn’t getting any younger. And don’t give me that crap about Brady being able to do it and he’s older; Brady has been cherry-picking his team for YEARS and hit the mother-load in Tampa with a STACKED team keeping him safe. Rodgers does not have a stacked team around him; the Packers don’t do a good job taking care of their star players so they’ve been dipping on the franchise for years, ever since Eddie Lacy, really. Losing Devante Adams, Rodgers’ top wide receiver, I think, was the breaking point for Rodgers. This past season is enough evidence.
And since he wanted to capitalize on whatever time he has left to play in the league, Rodgers wanted to really think about his future without outside influence. He wanted to listen to his mind and his heart, not us. I mean, Brady’s over there ruining his family and we can’t just let a man enjoy an ayahuasca trip every now and then? Harsh, man.
