Following a blockbuster trade that moved a perennial MVP candidate to one of the NBA’s marquee franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers shifted from about 50-to-1 longshots to 22-to-1 championship odds at DraftKings as the sixth favorite.

The Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to L.A. and received Anthony Davis and Max Christie in return, as part of three-team deal. Dallas’ odds shifted from about +2200 to +3500. According to the betting market, the Lakers improved their title chances this season, while the Mavs worsened theirs.

Following the trade, the Lakers leapfrogged the Suns, Timberwolves, Mavs, Bucks, Clippers and Grizzlies in the futures market.

The Thunder (+235), Celtics (+250), Knicks (+850), Cavs (+900) and Nuggets (+1500) are the only teams that have shorter title odds than the Lakers.

Doncic has been sidelined with a calf strain and has been targeting a return date of around Feb. 8.
