The betting market has finally adjusted to the San Francisco 49ers’ struggles. They are -250 favorites to miss the playoffs and now Super Bowl longshots, instead of ranking among the favorites.

The 49ers are now the 10th favorite with +2800 odds at DraftKings and are no longer division favorites for the first time this season. They have +350 odds to win the NFC West.

San Francisco is just 5-5 with back-to-back wins only one time this season. Yet, despite the mounting losses, the Niners remained NFC favorites until a few weeks ago. Star running back Christian McCaffrey’s looming return from injury factored into the futures market.

As recently as last week, the 49ers had the fifth-shortest odds in the neighborhood of +900. Now, they are -250 favorites to miss the postseason.

Only three teams have ever won the Super Bowl immediately after losing the Super Bowl the previous season. In fact, losing the big game often induces struggles, earning the “Super Bowl Hangover” nickname. In the past 35 seasons, 14 teams have missed the playoffs the following year.
