Such a compelling matchup for Thursday Night Football with both teams who have aspirations of winning the NFC West coming in off disappointing performances and the amateur psychologist in me is just racking my brain trying to think about the best angle for this one. So the San Francisco 49ers are road favorites in Seattle, 3.5. This was 3 for a little bit, got bed up right away. High over/under, all things considered, at 49.5.
So, what are those disappointing performances each team is coming off? Well, let’s start with the Niners, who blew yet another 10 point lead in the fourth quarter this season against a divisional opponent. This one was against Arizona at home. Some of it is excused because their kicker got hurt during the game, so they couldn’t get any points in field goal range, but they were shut out in the second half.
As for Seattle, got blasted, really dominated at home by the Giants who were playing without star rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, but it was a really tough scheduling spot. They’re off a short week with a draining game in Detroit. Meanwhile, New York had the long extra rest after a Thursday game. So one of those things where I should have made, I was kicking myself, so to speak. So the Seahawks have back-to-back losses. Niners are 2-3. They’re under .500 and they are still favorites to win the division.
As for this matchup, I think it’s pretty tough. I think the Niners are humming on in a lot of ways. Brandon Aiyuk sort of returned. had eight catches for 147 yards. Technically, Christian McCaffrey is eligible to come off the injured reserve. I don’t expect him to play, but this Seahawks team, we’re going to learn a lot. I was super impressed with them, with how they competed at Detroit on that Monday Night Football game. They ended up losing, but I like the under here. I think the total’s too high. I think defense is clamped down. I think it’s going to be a smash-mouth division game, one of those things. I think we sneak under the total, but it’s by no means strong conviction on this play. It’s merely a lean.
