Middle of the week during football season, sometimes MACtion or Fun Belt, but it’s WNBA action, a NBA TV double header. Game one, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever hosting the two time defending champion Las Vegas Aces. Fever, a home underdog here, no surprise. 3.5 your point spread, 178 is your over/under.

Now, they have played each other twice this year, both meetings in Vegas and the Aces dominated, blowout city. But that was a very different Fever team. That one, remember, played 11 games in their first 20 days. Caitlin Clark was a rookie, which she still is a rookie, but really new and needed to recharge the batteries, which happened during the Olympic break. The entire team did. None of them made the Olympics. And what do you know? 8-2 since returning from the Olympic break, the only two losses against the Minnesota Lynx, obviously legitimate contenders.

Now the Aces are too, but they have some problems on defense. I don’t think they’ve figured it out. They had won four straight, just lost at New York against the favored Liberty, and that was without Aja Wilson, who’s the likely MVP. Now the Aces played well, give them credit. They rallied from a big deficit, took the lead in the fourth quarter, but they shot extremely well, and I still don’t think the defense is that strong.

So I’m still going to lean to the Fever here. Home dog plus the points, but Indiana didn’t play great in their last game. They were down 16 in the second half at home to the Dream. Rallied back, tied it, then fell down nine, rallied back, tied it, forced overtime, and then won in overtime. You can’t play with fire against the Aces like you can the Atlanta Dream. But I think the Fever are gonna respond. They’ve had a couple days off, recharged. I think this is a big game. I think they’re gonna name their score here. So I do like the Fever plus the points.
