Chicago Cubs righty Javier Assad has a 2.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, entering Sunday Night Baseball’s home game against the Mets. In fact, in 15 starts, Assad has allowed more than two earned runs only once.

One of my favorite pitchers to bet on takes the bump for Sunday Night Baseball, Javier Assad, the Tijuana Ricky Vaughn, the Tijuana native, certainly has been quite the spectacle with his black glasses that we know from the movie Major League Charlie Sheen, but Assad’s been fantastic. Only one start this year where he’s allowed over two earned and obviously doesn’t have overpowering stuff, but has all the pitches. His former manager said he had to learn how to pitch in the minors as he was coming up the ranks and that is certainly serving him well. So I love this guy now.

The Mets lineup, fortunately Grimace, the Grimace streak is over. So we don’t have to worry about the streak or anything like that, but all in all seriousness, they do have some big bats. Obviously the Polar Bear being one of them with Pete Alonso, but I love Assad. So I would be betting all these props for Assad, you know, total outs recorded over all this stuff. Cause Assad just keeps batters off balance and there’s a lot to like it. It’s not overwhelming stuff, but Greg Maddux once didn’t have overwhelming stuff and he was pretty good out there in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. So I’m gonna roll with Assad on a lot of props, earned runs allowed under, total recorded outs over, things along those lines.
