Reigning NFL MVP Favored To Repeat

Tom Brady has retired (again) and the NFL’s new face, Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, enters the upcoming season as the +600 MVP betting favorite to repeat and earn his third award, which would match Brady.

A quarterback has won the MVP in 15 of the past 16 seasons so it makes perfect sense that the betting board is filled with QBs. Following Mahomes, Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow (+750) and Buffalo’s Josh Allen (+850) are the only two other players in single digits.

Jalen Hurts (+1100) was the MVP favorite entering December last season but an injury disrupted that pursuit. Lamar Jackson (+1500) joins Mahomes as the only previous winners among the top seven favorites.

Thirty-nine-year-old Aaron Rodgers left Green Bay to join the New York Jets to generate perhaps the biggest offseason storyline. He is +1600 to win his fifth MVP, which would tie Peyton Manning for the most all-time.

At 80-to-1 odds, Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson and Christian McCaffrey have the shortest odds for any non-quarterback.

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs enter the season as +600 Super Bowl betting favorites. The defending champs open the season as 4.5-point home favorites against the Detroit Lions.
